The most beautiful hiking trails around Eisenach

There are numerous varied hiking routes to explore around Eisenach. Here is a small selection of popular trails:

Rennsteig

A hiking holiday on the Rennsteig is a lifelong dream for many. Just a few kilometres away from us, in Hörschel, lies the official starting point of this 169-kilometre-long high-altitude trail. Hike the first stage and enjoy the historic tranquillity of the Thuringian ridge trails.

Dragon- and Landgrave Gorge

The Dragon Gorge impresses with its narrow rock formations and moss-covered walls. As a special tip, we recommend the Landgrave Gorge. It offers a wild and romantic alternative with gentler ascents and impressive flora and fauna.

Circular route to Wartburg Castle and Metilstein

Heading west, this trail leads to the town’s best vantage points. Hike up to Wartburg Castle and on to Metilstein. From there, you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view over the Mariental valley and far into the Thuringian Forest – a particularly colourful spectacle in autumn.
