Canyon of the Dragon

Experience nature and let the walls come closer.  In the Dragon Gorge, the narrowest part of the hiking trail is no wider than 70 cm. In the legendary Dragon Gorge south of Eisenach, romantics, nature lovers and geologists alike get their money's worth. In the narrow gorge, you walk on footbridges over a rushing stream.

You start your tour in the Mariental valley near Eisenach and walk through the impressive Landgrafenschlucht gorge up to the Großer Drachenstein. After enjoying the magnificent view there, you continue along the wine route to the Hohe Sonne directly on the Rennsteig. After a short break at the Hohe Sonne barbecue, you descend through the Drachenschlucht gorge, at the end of which the Mariental valley awaits you again. The tour is exciting and fascinating, especially for children. There is much to discover and explore.

TIP: For all the little ones, there is a dragon quiz to take home at the tourist information office at the market. There you can pick up a small gift after the hike and if the solution is correct.
